HS2 launches public consultation

UK Transport Secretary Philip Hammond today launched the public consultation for the proposed US$27.5bn high-speed rail line (HS2) between London and Birmingham that could contain four large diameter tunnels, totalling over 20km linear length. Read more

Crossrail strengthens Board

Crossrail Limited today announced two new Non-Executive appointments to the Crossrail Board, strengthening it further to help deliver the major new railway for London and the south east. Former Hong Kong MTR Managing Director Phil Gaffney and former Managing Director of TfL London Rail Ian Brown CBE will join the Board on 1 April 2011. Singapore awards first two DTL3 contracts

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the first two civil contracts for the Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) at a total value of S$480.38M. The S$268.68M C928 has been awarded to Sato Kogyo (S) Pte Ltd, whilst C929A has been awarded to Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd for S$211.7M. Read more

Crossrail confirms Farringdon shortlist

Crossrail today announced the shortlist for C435 Farringdon station. The following organisations will be invited to tender for the main construction contract: Balfour Beatty, Alpine BeMo, Morgan Sindall & Vinci JV; Costain Skanska JV; Laing O’Rourke & Strabag JV; and BAM Nuttall, Ferrovial Agroman & Kier Construction JV.

Rocksy hits halfway – press release

The first breakthrough of one of the two 12.45m diameter Herrenknecht EPBMs working on Brisbane’s 6.7km long Airport Link project has occurred deep underground at Wooloowin, marking the halfway point of the machine’s 2.5km journey to Lutwyche. Read more

Woolwich Station Box secures funds

Agreement has been reached to build a new ’station box’ on the Crossrail line through Woolwich on the project’s south-eastern spur, Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has announced today. The station box, which could be converted into a complete station in the future, will be privately funded by developer Berkeley Homes under an agreement with the Department for Transport, Transport for London, Crossrail Ltd and Greenwich Council. Singapore’s LTA has awarded Contract 938 Package A and B, for the 10 owner procured 6.6m – 6.8m diameter EPBMs to be used on the Downtown Line 3, with STEC scooping six, and Herrenknecht the remaining four. Read more

Realignment for Lake Mead Intake No 3

On February 10th, the cost and schedule impacts of a 20˚ to 25˚ re-alignment of the Lake Mead Intake No 3 starter tunnel and TBM assembly cavern, were outlined in a notice of agenda for the February 17th Board of Directors meeting of the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA). The recommended negotiated change order being put before the Board is valued at $39.5 million and extends the contract completion date by 593 calendar days. Read more
