RFQ called for Kailua-Kaneohe Tunnel Project in Hawaii

The City and County of Honolulu has issued contractors with a Request for Qualification for its 3.2-mile (4.8km) long 10ft-12ft (3m-3.6m) i.d. Kaneohe-Kailua Sewer Tunnel Project, under the Oneawa Hills, in Oahu, Hawaii. The deadline is March 27, with bids due May 30. Read more

Conveyor belt fire halts construction on Spadina’s Northern drives

A fire broke out at the Highway 407 station box on Wednesday, February 20 – part of the CA$405 million Northern Tunnels contract held by the OHL/FCC JV for Toronto Transit Commission’s Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) Project – when the contractor’s high angle spoil conveyor caught fire just after 1.30pm. No one was injured in the blaze and the fire was quickly brought under control. Read more

The Tunnelling business section of construction, infrastructure and design company Morgan Sindall has contributed to a solid set of preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2012, released 19 February 2013 by parent company Morgan Sindall Group plc, the construction and regeneration group. KL MRT Underground Works awarded

The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) and MMC-Gamuda KVMRT have signed an agreement for the Underground Works for Kuala Lumpur’s MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. The US$2.77bn contract is for the design, construction and completion of the Underground Works between the Semantan North Portal and the Mauri South Portal. Read more

Victoria Dock Portal begins

Construction work is now underway on a new tunnel portal at Victoria Dock which will help create a key 1km tunnelled section of the new Crossrail route in east London. The Victoria Dock Portal will allow the new Crossrail trains on the existing surface railway from the east to move underground and into Crossrail’s tunnelled section beneath central London. Terratec unveils third TBM for Delhi Metro Phase III

After a successful performance of the workshop testing, Terratec delivered the third of six (6) TBMs for Delhi Metro Phase III on Thursday, January 31st 2013.  The TBM was officially unveiled at a ceremony that included representatives from the client – a joint venture between J.Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. of India and China Railway Third Group (CRTG) of China. CREC-TBM launches international division

Following the successful Factory Acceptance Test of the first TBM bound for the Kuala Lumpur MRT, CREC-TBM has announced the launch of its new International Division, CTE Limited. CTE Ltd has been established in Hong Kong with the sole purpose of marketing and presenting TBMs manufactured by CREC-TBM, and to provide full support to users of CREC-TBM machines in terms of Field Service and after sales activities. London First, a group of business leaders chaired by former Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, with the mission to make London the best city in the world in which to do business, has unveiled its proposed route for the £12bn ‘Crossrail 2’, a major new rail link connecting south-west and north-east London, via a tunnel beneath the city centre. Mobile Tunnel Miner for copper mine

Aker Wirth and Codelco, the world’s largest producer of copper, have signed a contract for the delivery of a Mobile Tunnel Miner (MTM). This innovative machine will be tested from mid-2014 in the Chuquicamata mine in Chile where the underground mining of copper is planned for the future. Read more
