Terratec micro delivery to Bangkok

TERRATEC has annouced a new Micro Tunnelling System delivery to the Royal Irrigation Department of Thailand and the JV of Ch.Karnchang PCL and Krung Thon Engineers Co.,Ltd. (KTE) for use on a complex underpassing of the Bang Pakong River in Bangkok. Read more

DC Water proposes cancelling tunnels for green infrastructure

DC Water has unveiled dramatic plans to replace 7,500ft (2,300m) of planned combined sewer overflow (CSO) storage tunnels, valued at $237 million, with green infrastructure. The controversial plan would eliminate the Rock Creek and Potomac River tunnels, which are currently included in a future phase of the $2.6 billion Clean Rivers Project. Read more

Andy Mitchell joins Tideway as CEO

Andrew Mitchell, Programme Director and Board Member at Crossrail, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of London’s Thames Tideway Tunnel delivery organisation, it was announced today. Read more

LTA Thomson Line awards continue

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a further civil contract on the 30km fully underground Thomson Line, T207 with a value of around S$189.8M. The contract covers the construction of tunnels from Seletar Expressway/Woodlands Avenue 12 to Springleaf Station and has been awarded to Shimizu Corporation. Read more

CREG Klang Valley MRT breakthrough

CTE has announced CR51, the second EPB machine supplied by CREG to the Klang Valley MRT Project in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia has completed the first stage of its drive.  It broke through into KL Sentral station on Thursday 16 January 2014, ahead of schedule, after completing the 1.4km drive.  It was launched on 12 July 2013 from the launch portal at Semantan and has achieved advance rates of up to 330m per month through the Kenny Hill formations. Aecom wins Hong Kong TKO-LT contracts

AECOM Technology Corporation has announced that it has been awarded an approximately US$13M consultancy contract for the design and an estimated US$103M contract for the construction supervision of the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin (TKO-LT) Tunnel project in Hong Kong. The TKO-LT Tunnel will include a 4.2km, two-lane highway connecting Tseung Kwan O (TKO) at Po Shun Road in the east with the proposed Trunk Road T2 in Kai Tak Development in the west. Black & Veatch-led team to oversee CM of seven Saint Louis sewer tunnels

The Metropolitan St Louis Sewer District (MSD) has selected a Black & Veatch-led team to manage the construction of more than $500 million in future tunnel projects. The tunnels are a significant part of the MSD’s Project Clear – a long-term, multi-billion dollar effort to address sewer overflows and basement backups throughout the St Louis area, in Missouri, US. Next procurement phase reached for Thames Tideway Tunnel

The next phase of procurement for the main construction works contracts for London’s £2.3bn, 25km long Thames Tideway Tunnel has been reached following the sending out yesterday of the invitation to tender for the second works package for the £500M-£800M Eastern section. The final bidders for the 7.2m diameter tunnel are expected to be announced in May 2015. Read more

CREG wins Wuhan Metro Slurry TBM contract

CTE Ltd has announced that CREG has been awarded a contract to supply a Slurry TBM for Lot 10 of Wuhan Metro Line 6. The TBM, with a cutterhead diameter of 6.5m, will excavate the Qinwu Running Tunnels with lengths of 1732m and 1691m. The tunnels pass under the Han River for approximately 350m. The tunnels will have a finished internal diameter of 5500mm. Read more

Norway to begin new TBM era

Boring is due to being this month on the first Norwegian tunnelling project to use a TBM for 22 years. Late November, 2013 saw a cutterhead turning ceremony on the 7.2m diameter Robbins Main Beam Machine that will be used to bore sections of the Røssåga Hydroelectric Project. Read more
