NPRA issues drilling tender

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has published the tender documents for core drilling in the Romsdalsfjord that will serve as preliminary surveys for the 15–16km long subsea tunnel between Vik and Otrøya in Møre og Romsdal county in Norway. Read more

MMC-Gamuda gears up for TBM fleet refurbishment

With the near completion of the tunnelling works for Kuala Lumpur’s MRT Sungai Buloh- Kajang Line (SBK Line), underground works contractor MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd (MGKT) has set up a facility to refurbish its used TBMs, in preparation for its next tunnelling job. Read more

Waterview’s second launch

Waterview’s 14.46m diameter EPBM, Alice, has been re-launched by Fletcher Construction, McConnell Dowell and Obayashi – as part of the Well-Connected Alliance and is now making a careful start constructing the second of the 2.4km twin tunnels that will connect Auckland’s Southwestern and Northwestern motorways. John Holland to be acquired by China Communications Construction Company

Leighton Holdings Limited (LEI.AX) announced yesterday, December 12, it had entered a binding Share Sale Agreement with CCCC International Holding Limited (CCCI) under which CCCI would acquire the business and assets of John Holland Group (JHG) from LEI. Read more

SNWA’s Intake No. 3 reaches final destination under Lake Mead

Concluding a 3-mile journey that began in 2011, the 23.29ft (7.1m) diameter Herrenknecht Multi-mode TBM excavating Southern Nevada’s $817 million third water intake beneath Lake Mead reached its destination on December 10, when it holed through into the concrete intake riser structure that was secured to the bottom of the lake in 2012. NCC awarded contract for E16 Expressway tunnel in Norway

NCC has been commissioned by the Norwegian Road Administration to construct the Bjørnegård Tunnel on the E16 expressway between Sandvika and Wøyen, in Norway. The order amounts to approximately SEK 1.3 billion (140 milion Euro). Read more

KL MRT design consultant award

Kuala Lumpur’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) has appointed Arup Jururunding as the underground reference design consultant for the 10.9km tunnel section of the 59.9km long Klang Valley Line 2, the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line. The contract is the first to be awarded on the line. Read more

BBMV completes platform tunnels

BBMV, a JV comprising Balfour Beatty, BeMo Tunnelling, Morgan Sindall and VINCI Construction Grands Projets, which is delivering two sections of the £15bn Crossrail project, has reached a major milestone in the construction of the new Crossrail Whitechapel station, completing the SCL of the two station platform tunnels.
