Bertha rescue pit complete

Seattle Tunnel Partners has completed excavation of the 39.5m deep pit that will be used to access and repair Bertha, the 17.5m diameter Hitachi Zosen SR 99 TBM being used to bore the 2.7km long Alaskan Way Viaduct Relacement Tunnel. Crews removed the final scoop of soil from the pit on Friday, Jan. 30.

Cityringen circle line metro TBMs reach Copenhagen Central

A milestone was reached in the construction of Copenhagen’s Cityringen metro circle line on January 29, when Denmark’s prime minister Mrs Helle Thorning-Schmidt and transport minister Mr Magnus Heunicke witnessed the breakthrough of TBMs ‘Eva’ and ‘Minerva’ into the station box at Copenhagen Central station. Crossrail tunnels edge towards completion

TBM Elizabeth, named after HM The Queen, has successfully broken through in to the eastern end of Liverpool Street Crossrail station. The breakthrough, 40m beneath the City of London, is part of Crossrail’s longest tunnel drive, 8.3km from Limmo Peninsula, near Canning Town, to Farringdon.

Leighton JV wins Exhibition Station contract for HK’s Shatin to Central Link

Leighton Holdings subsidiary Leighton Asia, in a joint venture with China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong), has been awarded a contract by MTR Corporation for works on the Shatin to Central Link in Hong Kong. Total revenue for the project is A$929 million (£504m), of which Leighton has a 51% share. Read more
