Lee Tunnel lining completion

MVB, a joint venture of Morgan Sindall, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche, has completed the secondary lining of Thames Water’s 6.4km long Lee Tunnel project under the supervision of project manager CH2M. This milestone marks the completion of all the civil works in the tunnel, 15 months after TBM, Busy Lizzie finished excavation in January 2014. Read more

York Potash receives vital support

In the UK’s north, Scarborough Borough Council and Ryedale District Council have released a joint statement giving their full support to a major planning application for a new US$1.6bn potash mine near Whitby for Sirus Minerals which includes the construction of a 36.5km long, 6m diameter Mineral Transport System (MTS) tunnel. Crosslinx consortium scoops $5 billion Eglinton Crosstown contract

On Tuesday, the contract for one of the largest and most sought after infrastructure projects in Canada’s history was handed down to the Crosslinx Transit Solutions consortium – which consists of Canadian construction companies SNC-Lavalin Group, Aecon Group, EllisDon Corporation, and the Canadian unit of Spain’s Grupo ACS (Dragados Canada) – subject to financial close, the preferred bidder will build and operate the new Eglinton Crossrail light-rail transit project in Toronto, Ontario. Gloggnitz Tunnel awarded to Hochtief/Implenia/Thyssen JV

Client, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG has awarded the Hochtief/Implenia/Thyssen JV the contract to build the Gloggnitz Tunnel in Austria. The total contract volume for the “SBT 1.1 Tunnel Gloggnitz” JV is some €457M. Read more

Slovakia’s longest tunnel breaks ground

The ground-breaking ceremony at the West Portal of the Lietavská Lúčka – Višňové – Dubná Skala stretch of the D1 highway, has taken place at Višňové in north Slovakia. The ceremony marked an important milestone consisting of the excavation of the first 100m of what will become the country’s longest tunnel at 7.5km. Read more

Bangkok Blue Line breakthrough

On 16th May 2015, contractor, Italian-Thai Development PLC broke through using a TERRATEC 6.44m diameter EPBM into Sanam Chai Station in Bangkok, marking  the completion of the excavation of the West Bound MRTA Blue Line Extension Contract 1. Read more
