Tideway update – project green light and contracts confirmed

Construction of London’s new £4.2bn ‘super sewer’ will start next year following the confirmation of independent investors to finance and deliver the scheme. Earlier today, Bazalgette Tunnel Limited received its licence from Ofwat as a new regulated utilities business, separate from Thames Water. Read more

STP successfully lowers Bertha into the access pit

Seattle Tunnel Partners and crane crews from Mammoet have successfully lowered the 2,000-ton front end of the SR 99 tunneling machine to a platform at the bottom of the access pit.

Crews will now use the crane to fine-tune the position of the piece. When that process is complete, they will begin reconnecting the piece to the portion of the machine that remains in the ground. Read more

The Balfour Beatty/Morgan Sindall/BAM Nuttall JV has been officially awarded a £416M contract to construct part of London’s new ‘super sewer’, the Thames Tideway Tunnel, for Bazalgette Tunnel Limited. Read more

Spain’s OHL wins $280 million Follo Line Ski contract in Norway

The Norwegian National Rail Administration and the Spanish construction group Obrascón Huarte Lain S.A. have signed the third EPC contract for the Follo Line Project, currently the largest infrastructure project in Norway. Read more

‘Lady Bird’ emerges from DC Water’s Blue Plains Tunnel Project

The 26ft (8m) diameter Herrenknecht EPB machine ‘Lady Bird’ that was used by Traylor/Skanska/Jay Dee JV to excavate DC Water’s Blue Plains Tunnel, has completed her mission, creating a four-and-a-half-mile-long tunnel that will be used to help improve the water quality in the Anacostia River.
