Tunneling complete on Vancouver’s Evergreen LRT Line

On November 27, Ministry officials joined construction crews to celebrate the completion of tunneling on the Evergreen Line in Vancouver, BC. ‘Alice’, a 9.84m (32.3ft) diameter Caterpillar mixed face EPB machine, mined a 2km (1.25-mile) long single-tube tunnel for the new Evergreen LRT Line, which is being constructed by EGRT. Commissioning of the SR-99 (Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement) tunneling machine continues as Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP) prepares to resume mining. STP began testing machine components earlier this month as crews continued welding pieces and reconnecting hoses and cables. Last week, STP began rotating the machine’s cutterhead a few degrees at a time, stopping periodically to take measurements before completing a full rotation.

Hatch Mott MacDonald announces partnership to be dissolved

Hatch and Mott MacDonald have announced that the Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) joint venture will be separated into two distinct businesses. HMM’s Canada business will become part of Hatch while HMM’s US business will become part of Mott MacDonald. HMM’s Pipelines business, which operates in both Canada and the US, will also join Mott MacDonald. Read more

Guy F Atkinson Construction has been named as the low bidder on Sound Transit’s 2,150ft (655m) light rail SEM tunnel in downtown Bellevue, Washington, as part of Sound Transit’s East Link Extension project. Read more

Quito Metro contract awarded in Ecuador

ACCIONA Infrastructure and Brazil’s Construtora Norberto Odebrecht have been awarded a $1,538M contract (€1,400M) to build the second phase of Line 1 of the Quito Metro. The contract, awarded by Quito City Council includes the construction of a 22km long tunnel and 13 new stations. Read more
