Bored Tunnel preferred for new East London road crossing

Highways England has today announced its preference for a new multi billion pound road link across the UK’s River Thames between Essex and Kent to be in bored tunnel. The tunnel will be the first new crossing of the Thames east of London since the Queen Elizabeth II bridge opened at Dartford 25 years ago. Read more

Singapore LTA awards three TEL contracts

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded three civil contracts for the construction of Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park and Marine Terrace stations along Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) with a total value of around S$948M.

Mott MacDonald wins HK Airport Tunnel design contract

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to undertake the detailed design of a 2.6km set of tunnels to house the automated people mover and baggage handling systems, which will serve the third runway concourse of the proposed expansion into a three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Lindahl appointed new CEO of Normet

Robin Lindahl (51) has been appointed as President and CEO of Normet Group, he will start in his new role no later than  May 1st 2016. He will be based in Huenenberg, Switzerland and will take over the position from Tom Melbye, who has decided to step down from his operative role and will in future act as a Senior Advisor to the CEO and Chairman of Normet Group. Melbye will work on special assigned strategical and business development tasks. Read more

Rosemont double shield completes long awaited tunnel

At a large November 2015 ceremony attended by the mayor of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Rosemont Reservoir tunnel construction came to a close. The long-awaited project gave good cause for celebration as crew members crowded around the cutterhead of the 3m (9.8ft) diameter Robbins Double Shield TBM that had emerged into an exit shaft. Normet to acquire MEYCO dry concrete spraying business from Atlas Copco

Normet has agreed to acquire the assets of the MEYCO dry spraying business from Atlas Copco, consisting of the Piccola and GM models. Normet will have the right to use the MEYCO brand name for the Piccola and GM models for 2 years from the transfer date. Read more

Seattle’s SR 99 tunnelling on hold following sinkhole development

Following previous issues relating to soil barge removal, and the more recent and serious development of a sinkhole some 100ft south of Bertha’s current cutterhead position on Seattle’s SR 99 Tunnel Project, client, WSDOT has notified Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP) that it must “suspend for cause” tunnelling operations involving the TBM and the loading of barges. Stonehenge contract awarded

Highways England has appointed an Arup/Atkins Joint Venture to develop a preferred option to improve the A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down in Wiltshire which will include the construction of the Stonehenge Tunnel. Read more

Arup Atkins JV awarded Tideway contract

A joint venture between Atkins and Arup has confirmed its award of a consultancy contract to deliver design and engineering services for BMB, the joint venture between BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty, who have been appointed by Tideway to deliver the West section of London’s new ‘super sewer’, the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
