Tunnelling begins on Sydney’s M5

Tunnelling has begun on Sydney’s New M5 road project. Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Roads Duncan Gay witnessed an excavator breaking ground for the 9km twin tunnels, which will run roughly in parallel to the existing M5 East – more than doubling capacity along the busy corridor. Read more

River Thames micro-crossing start up

Engineers from client, National Grid’s Gas Distribution strategic partner tRIIO, which includes consultant, Mott Macdonald and contractor, Skanska, are starting work on National Grid Gas Distribution’s biggest civil engineering project – a 330m long tunnel under the River Thames in London. Two TERRATEC Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) Tunnel Boring Machines made a historic double breakthrough on 14th November, marking the end of tunnelling works on the 58.6km Pink Line (Line 7) on Phase III of the Delhi Metro project, in India. Read more

The British Tunnelling Society (BTS) is announcing the UK’s second National Tunnelling Day to take place on the Thursday 1st December 2016. NCC scoop Faroe double tunnel contract

NCC has signed a contract to construct two road tunnels in the Faroe Islands totaling 21.7km. The contract is split into two sub-projects and is conditional upon approval of project funding by the government of the Faroe Islands. Read more
