Robbins TBM takes on eighth drive

A 3.5m diameter Robbins TBM is currently undertaking its eighth bore after being launched by contractor Eiffage Civil Engineering on March 3 on the 2,750m long tunnel drive for the Galerie des Janots project in La Ciotat, France. Read more

AECOM awarded Stonehenge technical support contract

Highways England has appointed AECOM to provide technical support in the detailed design and planning application process for the UK’s A303 Stonehenge scheme. AECOM will be Highways England’s Technical Partner for the project, which includes proposals for a 2.9km long tunnel near Stonehenge. Read more

Lower Thames Crossing route chosen

The UK’s Secretary of State for Transport has announced the preferred route for the £4.4bn – £6.2bn Lower Thames Crossing, a 3.2km long bored tunnel crossing under the River Thames east of Gravesend and Tilbury. Read more

Komatsu America Corp., a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd. has completed its acquisition of Joy Global Inc., a worldwide leader in high-productivity mining solutions. Read more

Astaldi success on Istanbul Metro

Astaldi has been awarded a €627M EPC Contract to carry out the civil works and the electromechanical systems on the Kirazli- Halkalı section of the Istanbul Underground. The project calls for the construction of 10km of twin-tube tunnel, 7km bored by TBM, as well as 9 stations. Read more

The final bids for the A$6bn Melbourne Metro Tunnel and Stations Public Private Partnership (PPP) have been received, and are being assessed by the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority. Salini Impregilo and Lane Construction Corporation (Salini Impregilo Group), through its wholly owned subsidiary S.A. Healy Company, have won a design-bid-build contract in the U.S. state of Indiana, valued at $188 million. Read more

Bertha breaks through!

Bertha, the SR99 Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Scheme’s 17.52m diameter Hitachi Zosen EPBM has successfully completed its 2.7km long drive beneath Seattle, breaking through on Tuesday afternoon, 64 years to the day since the viaduct first opened to traffic. Read more
