Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority cuts funding for 710 Tunnel

On May 25, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors unanimously approved a motion to end its share of the funding of a controversial proposed $3.2bn, 4.9-mile tunnel to extend the 710 freeway from its current terminus from Alhambra to Pasadena. Read more

COWI wins on Karnaphuli Tunnel

COWI has been chosen as consultant to approve the design and construction on the 3.4km long Karnaphuli Tunnel in Bangladesh. The tunnel is part of the One Belt One Road initiative – the world’s largest and most extensive infrastructure investment connecting China with Europe and Africa. Read more

Bids in for huge Brenner contract

Five bids have been tendered for the largest construction lot for the Brenner Base Tunnel, Pfons-Brenner. The construction lot includes the excavation of the main tunnels between Pfons and Brenner, about 9km of exploratory tunnel and the emergency stop and the cross-over at St. Jodok. In total, about 50km of tunnel will be driven. Read more

Battersea milestone achieved

A major milestone has been reached on a £42M project to bring electricity supplies to the heart of the Battersea Power Station development in London. Electricity TBM, ‘Maggie’, has recently completed the 11-week construction of a 320m long spur tunnel to carry essential electricity supplies to the £9bn, 42-acre development taking shape on the banks of the River Thames.
