TTC issues RFP for Relief Line South tunnel design

In Canada, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has formally released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for tunnel design work of the Relief Line South. More specifically, the RFP is to “complete the Concept Design Report and Preliminary Design and Engineering for the Tunnels and associated facilities for the RLS, together with a cost estimate and project delivery schedule, to 30% design completion.” Read more

A joint venture of Dragados and Tomlinson is currently gearing up for TBM launch on the City of Ottawa’s CA$232.3M Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel (CSST), with below-ground machine assembly about to commence on the project. Read more

In Canada, Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have selected Toronto Tunnel Partners (TTP) as the preferred proponent to design, build and finance the Highway 401 Rail Tunnel project, in support of the province’s GO Regional Express Rail (RER) program. Read more

Nashville’s mayor unveils $5.2 billion transit infrastructure plan

On October 17, Nashville’s Mayor Megan Barry announced a $5.2 billion transportation and infrastructure investment plan called “Let’s Move Nashville.” The solution calls for existing bus service improvements, 26 miles of new light rail line, four rapid bus routes, and a 1.8-mile, $936 million, transit tunnel through downtown Nashville, Tennessee, that will connect the new light rail network from north to south. Seattle says goodbye to Bertha

Disassembly of the US’s largest tunneling machine is now complete. On August 23, crews lifted the final pieces of the 8,000-ton giant out of the SR 99 tunnel’s disassembly pit near Seattle Center. Read more

STV, Mott MacDonald JV lands Sound Transit systems contracts

Sound Transit has selected STV and Mott MacDonald as systems construction management services consultants for two light rail projects: the East Link extension and the Northgate Link extension. The two companies will work as part of the Northwest Transit Systems Partners (NTSP) Joint Venture, approved by Sound Transit’s board in May 2017. Read more
