UK Chancellor, George Osborne has announced that London’s US$25bn Crossrail scheme has been spared the axe in the UK’s spending review and will go ahead, “to build the economic infrastructure our businesses need,” said Osborne. The announcement will be met with huge relief by the British tunnelling industry as Crossrail currently involves the construction of some 42km of tunnel, including the TBM driven, twin 6m internal diameter, 6.2km long Royal Oak to Farringdon drives and the 8.3km long Limmo Peninsula to Farringdon tunnels, and several muti-million dollar major station construction contracts. More soon.
