Two tunnel workers were killed yesterday and a further eight injured after a collapse during construction of the Beijing Metro, reports the Chinese Media. The incident occurred at Shunyi Station on the 45km long Line M15, 32km of which is in tunnel. Accounts from site say the Station’s steel supporting structure and part of the Station tunnel collapsed at 4:30pm, burying the two workers.

Rescuers are reinforcing the tunnel in a bid to prevent further collapses, whilst investigations are held into the cause of the collapse.

Line M15 runs in an east-west direction between Xiyuan in Haidian District and east of the Chaobai River in Shunyi.
