A US$314M international tender to design and build a 7-8km long road tunnel in Acapulco, Mexico, will be launched in April, according to the Guerrero state’s urban development head, Rafael Trani Cabrera.
The tunnel, which is scheduled for a 2-3 year implementation schedule, will form a vital section of a 15km long toll-road that will connect the city center to Juan Álvarez international airport. The structure is just a small part of the city’s planned major overhaul of Acapulco’s highway network, that will cost some US$1.2bn, funded by both the public and private sectors.
