Dr. Sauer & Partners

Company Details

Dr. Sauer & Partners offers value engineering, design and construction management services as well as monitoring and geotechnical expertise. Dr. Sauer & Partners has worked on numerous high-profile tunnelling and infrastructure projects around the world, one most recent project being the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade Project in London with TfL and Dragados – UK. This ambitious project has helped optimise and set a new standard for sprayed concrete tunnelling in the UK. The development of combined initial and final linings, the innovation of new construction joints to improve safety and speed of mining and the optimisation of tunnel geometries to reduce the effects of settlements caused by mining, are just some of the innovations that were used on the project.

These design and construction developments offered by Dr. Sauer & Partners offer improved construction schedules and provide cost-effective alternatives to base designs. Our approach is to work collaboratively and integrate fully with all disciplines (design and construction) on a project to achieve a robust and innovative solution.

Key elements of design related to working in variable soil conditions include:

· Pre-support including use of pipe arches, spiles and sheets.

· Depressurisation/dewatering.

· Permeation grouting.

· Jet grouting: as pre-support and ground improvement.

· Ground freezing: in soft, water bearing soils.

· Compensation grouting: underneath sensitive structures.

· Retaining structures

· Geotechnical Risk Management

· Slope Stability Analysis

Key elements of design associated with rock tunnelling include:

· Portal and tunnel lining design including temporary and permanent linings.

· Blasting patterns and details.

· Rock classification and geological mapping.

· Rock mechanics and numerical modelling.

· Support class derivation.

· Ground modelling.

· In-tunnel grouting works/water control.

· On-site supervision and design verification.

Our offering brings technical competency in addition to quality, safety, environmental and risk management activities related to underground engineering. A key aspect of the company’s strength is value engineering services, providing cost-effective alternatives to base or conceptual designs to contractors and clients.
