The Brisbane City Council today awarded the US$1.4bn Northern Link design, construct, maintain and operate tunnel contract to the Transcity consortium, comprising Acciona/BMD/Ghella. The JV beat off competition from one other bidder, Northern Direct, a JV of Bouygues/Laing O’Rourke/Transfield Services.
Work is expected to begin this Christmas on the contract to design, build, operate and maintain the 5.5km long, twin tube tunnel between Toowong and Bowen Hills, with completion scheduled for 2014. A mixture of drill and blast, TBM and cut and cover construction will be used. More soon.
