Crossrail’s giant tunnelling machine Victoria has joined sister TBM Elizabeth in Canary Wharf box this week, after successfully breaking through on Tuesday 6 June. Crossrail’s eastern tunnelling machines were launched from the Limmo site near Canning Town towards the end of last year to create 8.3km of tunnels from east London to Farringdon – Crossrail’s longest tunnel section.

Both machines will now undergo maintenance inside the Canary Wharf station box before being transitted through the station box to resume tunnelling towards central London. A marathon-equivalent 42km section of tunnels beneath London will be built in total for Crossrail.
