CREG Double Shield TBM Completes FAT

On Jan 15th, 2025, small-diameter double shield TBM “CREC 1477” completed its FAT in Zhengzhou city, Henan province, China. With an excavation diameter of 3.86m and a total length of appropriately 420m, the TBM will be mainly used to bore the 1# tunnel on the Linhai Reservoir Water Tunnel Phase I Project.

Picture 1The tunnel is 9.265km in length. During excavation, the TBM will face a series of challenges, such long distance boring without intermediate access, passing through fault zones, overcoming water and mud burst as well as its launch and subsequent excavation in an extremely cold area.

To cope with those challenges and ensure the reliability of the TBM and greatly improved construction efficiency and safety, CREG (China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd.) has supplied the double shield TBM “CREC1477” with a series of custom technologies including large-thrust and high-torque anti-jamming technology, advanced geological forecast technology and full circumference probe drilling capability. For launching in the extremely-low temperature environment, a preheating system is also provided.

The Linhai Reservoir Project has multiple functions such as increasing urban water supply, providing flood control, irrigation and power generation. Upon completion, it will improve the living standards and production conditions for residents in Mudanjiang and Hailin cities and promote regional economic and social development.
