Ennomotive, a leading open innovation platform for engineering challenges, has launched a competition relating to the effective installation of metallic support mesh inside small mine tunnels and is offering US$14,000 in prize money for the best solutions.

The construction and reinforcement of tunnels in mining consist of several activities, including unrolling and placing a metallic mesh on the tunnel’s walls using large machinery. However, in Block or Panel Cave mining projects with tunnels smaller than 4m x 4m, standard machinery is too large to operate.

The goal of this competition is to find solutions for unrolling and placing the mesh on the tunnel walls before workers enter that section.

The online competition is open worldwide to any professional, student or Academia with Mechanical Engineering backgrounds and/or knowledge that want to propose a solution.

Interested participants should sign up at www.ennomotive.com and submit their solutions before the 1st of October.
