Heathrow Airport is looking for a contractor to refurbish its 1950s twin-bore main road tunnel as part of an £130 million contract, which also includes the refurbishment of its 1960s cargo tunnel, over a 38-month period. HAL- Tunnels Refurbishment Project- Main and Cargo Tunnels
The main tunnel is the primary entrance to the central terminal area and is a 630m twin bore road tunnel with two lanes per bore and two additional single lane side bores. The cargo tunnel is a bi-directional airside road tunnel. It is 830m long and comprises 630m of bored tunnel and 100m of ‘cut and cover’ sections at each end.
The scope of work includes the installation replacement of the ventilation equipment, fixed fire suppression, passive fire protection, fire and incident detection equipment, lighting systems, electrical systems, and telephones and CCTV systems.
Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) said it has developed a performance specification and indicative drawings for both tunnels. The supplier will be required to develop a detailed design in accordance with this information for client approval. Interested parties should use www.tendersmart.com.
