As part of this study, a survey is being made to support the report being prepared by WG2 into segment damage, avoidance and repair. ITA WG2 would be very interested in receiving data from completed and ongoing projects from around the world. Any data on segment damage will be useful to the study, regardless of how it is categorized and recorded. The detailed information provided will be kept confidential and will only be reported at a level that cannot be attributed to individual projects or companies.

ITA-AITES is asking for the cooperation of Member Nations and national Tunnelling Associations to inform promptly national members, projects’ representatives, contractors, etc. potentially concerned about the existence of the questionnaire and the interest to collaborate for the collection of information.

Both questionnaire and appendix are available on the following links:

  • https://www.dropbox.com/s/7rt4zbz7ajqlsvu/Classification%20of%20segment%20damage.pdf?dl=0

Some indications on how to proceed:
* After clicking on the links, go to the right part of the Dropbox page in order to download them,
* Save the questionnaire before fill in it,
* Once ready, go to the blue rectangle of the questionnaire in order to upload additional files including your questionnaire.

ITA thanks you in advance and are counting on you to relay this questionnaire.

This is a very welcome study, and I suspect its findings will be very useful. I take it that the scope of the study is not limited to damage to segments due to production, handling and installation? It would also be useful to include damage that occurs over time during the service life of tunnels, since when these occur, they can be serious and unexpected.

Damage & CRACKS in Precast concrete can be avoided by using Synthetic Macro Fibres.
