Victoria’s $16bn North East Link (NEL) has gone out to market, and is calling for expressions of interest (EOI) to deliver the $200M early works package, expected to start construction in 2020 after environmental and planning approvals are in place. Also called for are EOI’s for the $7-9bn primary package that involves construction of the twin 5km tunnels. This procurement process will take 18 months to complete.

The expressions of interest will help the project create a shortlist of potential bidders that will be invited to submit detailed tenders as planning and environment requirements become clear.

Construction for North East Link is still expected to start in 2020

The project still needs planning approvals and the Environment Effects Statement (EES) still needs to go on exhibition for public comment and submissions to an independent panel. This is scheduled to happen mid 2019.

Construction for North East Link is still expected to start in 2020 after the EES process is complete and planning approvals have been received.

North East Link will finally connect the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network, while increasing the capacity of the Eastern Freeway.

It will slash travel times, get trucks off local roads and link key growth areas in the north and south-east.
