Mott MacDonald has been appointed detailed design consultant by the Hindustan Construction Company–Samsung joint venture for Phase III of Delhi Metro in India. The consultancy will provide geotechnical, civil and structural engineering services for contract CC34, which is part of the Janakpuri West to Kalindi Kunj corridor.
The Delhi mass rapid transit system is being expanded to meet increasing transport needs. New circular lines will interchange with existing radial lines, improving connectivity and access to the city’s metropolitan areas. Contract CC34 involves the design and construction of a 4.5km tunnel from Janakpuri West to Palam by shield tunnel boring machine. It also includes construction of underground metro stations at Janakpuri West, Dabri Mor and Dashrath Puri as well as interchanges with existing elevated metro stations.
Mohan Gupta, Mott MacDonald’s divisional director, said: “Our association with Delhi Metro goes back over 10 years and we have played an important part in the system’s success. We’re looking forward to continuing our involvement and will use our knowledge from previous phases to provide solutions in what are often challenging soft ground conditions in Delhi.”
The project is due for completion in 2016.
