Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Samsung-Hsin Chong Joint Venture (SHJV) as contractor’s designer for the MTR Corporation’s Shatin to Central Link (SCL) contract 1109 in Hong Kong.

The HK$4.6bn contract is the first of the major civil works contracts on SCL and comprises the construction of two new underground stations in the densely-populated Kowloon City area of Central Kowloon. The project also includes 1.6km of twin-bored tunnel. Elements include temporary works design for earth lateral support at the station boxes, TBM boring and various underpinning works in the East Kowloon Corridor.

Mark Swales, Mott MacDonald project director commented: “We’re proud to be assisting Samsung, as the lead party in the JV, on its first successful venture into the highly-competitive Hong Kong construction market. Our appointment also builds upon and enhances our working relationship with successful local contractor Hsin Chong Construction Co. Ltd.”

Construction has commenced and will open to the public in 2018.
