Hong Kong’s MTR has awarded three further construction contracts totaling US$650M on it’s multi-billion dollar rail expansion plan. The awards are across the South Island Line (East) and the Kwun Ting Line (KTE).

On KTE, Nishimatsu has picked up C1001, Yau Ma Tei to Whampoa Tunnels, and the Ho Man Tin Station for US$382M, whilst the Chun Wo/Hip Hing JV has been awarded the C1002 at US$110M for the Whampoa Station and Overrun Tunnel. The 3km long, US$540M KTE is predominantly drill and blast twin tunnel in rock. The two sections, C1001 and C1002 have been designed by Ove Arup & Partners, and Hyder Consulting respectively.

On SIL(E) Nishimatsu has won again, scooping the US$164M, C902 contract to build the Nam Fung Tunnel. The 7km long, US$1.4bn SIL between Admiralty and South Horizon Stations, with intermediate stations at Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang and Lei Tung, includes the drill and blasting of 4km of tunnel, the rest being on viaduct.

Construction on both SIL(E) and KTE are scheduled to start imminently, with an expected completion dates in 2015.
