NCC has been commissioned by the Norwegian Road Administration to construct the Bjørnegård Tunnel on the E16 expressway between Sandvika and Wøyen, in Norway. The order amounts to approximately SEK 1.3 billion (140 milion Euro).
The E16 is one of Norway’s busiest two-lane highways and the primary link between Oslo and Bergen. The Bjørnegård Tunnel will be part of the new E16 expressway and will help to improve accessibility and enhance traffic safety, while also contributing to the development of Sandvika.
“This transaction is proof of our strong competitiveness in complex infrastructure projects that require advanced engineering and operational expertise. This is the second billion-kronor contract we have secured from the Norwegian Road Administration during this quarter. We look forward to successful cooperation with our client and the road users that will be affected,” says Håkon Tjomsland, Business Area Manager for NCC Construction Norway.
The 2.3km-long new tunnel will comprise a two-lane dual carriageway. The assignment also includes a 290-meter-long connecting tunnel, as well as extensive road works where the E16 joins the E18. Work will commence in January 2015 and continue until December 2019.
