Nominations open for 8th Edition of the ITA Tunnelling Awards

The 8th edition of the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards has been officially launched with the issue of a call for nominations. Organized by the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association the event that saw its inception in 2015 both showcases the latest innovations, techniques and methods implemented in underground construction and offers a global overview of ongoing projects all over the world. This edition will once again be available online at the end of the year on a dedicated digital platform.

Submissions can be made in each of the eight different categories. This year, a category dedicated to equipment is back – Product/Equipment: Innovation of the year. Innovations, whether for a new product or for new knowledge of an existing product, are at the heart of the tunnelling sector and address challenges of safety, cost effectiveness, academic research and sustainable objectives.

The 8 Categories are:

  • MAJOR PROJECT OF THE YEAR – OVER €500 MILLION
  • PROJECT OF THE YEAR – BETWEEN €50 MILLION & €500 MILLION
  • PROJECT OF THE YEAR INCL. RENOVATION – UP TO €50 MILLION
  • TECHNICAL INNOVATION OF THE YEAR
  • BEYOND ENGINEERING – MAKING UNDERGROUND WORKS PROJECTS EVEN BETTER
  • PRODUCT / EQUIPMENT – INNOVATION OF THE YEAR
  • INNOVATIVE UNDERGROUND SPACE USE
  • YOUNG TUNNELLER OF THE YEAR

Entries can be submitted up until July 8th 2022 with the entries and selection process made on ITA website: https://awards.ita-aites.org/account-creation

Nominations for the different categories must be related to projects for which the major civil engineering work was completed between 1st January 2019 and 1st April 2022.

The Young Tunneller of the Year rewards an individual born after 1st January 1986 and who has made an outstanding contribution to tunnelling.
