Italy’s Mr Andrea Pigorini, Head of Infrastructure Engineering – Italferr SpA has been elected as the new President of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, whilst Singapore has been chosen as host of the World Tunnel Congress (WTC) 2028, narrowly beating Brisbane by 26 – 24 votes.
Both elections were held at the closing General Assembly on the final day of the 53rd Edition of the WTC, held in Stockholm, Sweden from 9th – 15th May 2025.
Expressions of interest for the hosting of WTC 2029 have been accepted from, Austria (Vienna), Finland (Helsinki), and India (new Delhi).
With visitors and exhibitors said to be in excess of 3000, this year’s WTC is sure to set the record for attendance numbers.
Next year, the WTC moves to Montreal, Canada, held from May 15th – 21st, with Brussels, Belgium hosting the 2027 event between the 23rd and the 29th April.
