Vinci Construction will commence work today on MTR Corporation’s contract 1103 – Hin Keng to Diamond Hill tunnels – part of the new Shatin to Central Link mass transit railway.

The US$362.8 million (HK$2,811 millon) contract comprises the construction of 2,475m of drill and blast tunnel and 1,400m twin tunnels to be excavated by means of a slurry TBM with 7.4m diameter. The works commence today, 22 October, with a contract duration of 68 months.

The new Shatin to Central Link is split into 10 main contracts and provides for the realization of a 12km underground mass transit line, the construction of four new stations and the reconfiguration of two interconnecting stations.

Vinci has already participated in the construction of the Hong Kong Mass Transit railway between 1998 and 2002, with the completion of 5 tunnels under the Black Hill Mountains for the extension to the town of Tseung Kwan O.
