Hong Kong’s MTR has invited Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified contractors wishing to tender for the Express Rail Link – West Kowloon Terminus Station North Contract C810A. The Construction Contract covers the northern portion of the West Kowloon Terminus at West Kowloon and includes the bulk excavation of some 1Mm3 of spoil, and 150,000m3 of rock.

Key dates for the contract are; tender issue in the fourth quarter of 2010; tender return in the first quarter of 2011; contract award in the third quarter of 2011; and contract completion in the second quarter of 2015.

The Contract will be awarded on the basis of a lump sum contract (containing admeasurement items where specified), based substantially on the Engineer’s Design, using the Corporation’s Conditions of Contract for Civil Engineering and Building Works in relation to the Express Rail Link Entrustment Agreements.

Major elements of works under Contract 810A comprise:
a) Bulk excavation of approximately 1,000,000m3 of spoil including 150,000m3 of rock
b) Installation of geotechnical instrumentation and dewatering equipment
c) Structure of northern portion of West Kowloon terminus (with a plan area of approximately 61,000m²)
d) Architectural builders’ works and finishes (ABWF) and specialist architectural works
e) Entrance building structural steel roof structure, inclusive of external wall cladding and glazing systems
f) Roadworks, underpass, footbridges and subways
g) Diversion of existing utilities

A presentation on the scope of works will be arranged, tentatively in the week commencing 21 June 2010 to the applicants. Exact date and venue of the presentation will be advised to the applicants.

Applicants will be provided with a brochure entitled “Express Rail Link Preliminary Information Brochure for Prospective Contractors” together with a Pre-qualification Questionnaire for the Construction Contract applied for. Completed Pre-qualification Questionnaires, together with related documents and materials shall be submitted no later than 2:00 pm on 31 August 2010 (Hong Kong Time).
