Mott MacDonald appointed on NZ$2.86 billion upgrade of Auckland City Rail Link

Mott MacDonald, as part of an integrated team, has been appointed to undertake the reference design for the NZ$2.86 billion upgrade of the City Rail Link (CRL) in Auckland, New Zealand. Mott MacDonald is using its global rail knowledge to develop the project on behalf of Auckland Transport. Other team members include Aurecon, Jasmax and Grimshaw. Read more

CBE Moulds for Anacostia and Rennes

CBE Group has been awarded the supply of segment moulds for the lining of the Anacostia River Tunnel project in Washington DC and the new part of the subway in Rennes, France. Six sets of moulds will be delivered to Bay State Precast LLC for the 3.84km long Anacostia River Tunnel project in Washington DC, and five sets of moulds will be supplied to the Rennes Line B project for use on a 7.5km long tunnel section. Record-Setting Robbins TBM breaks through in Mumbai

A celebration ensued among crew and Robbins Field Service following the 6.25 m (20.5 ft) TBM’s breakthrough

On January 21, 2014, a Robbins Main Beam TBM completed one of the longest and deepest water supply tunnels in Asia, the Mumbai Water Tunnel. The 6.25 m (20.5 ft) diameter machine displayed excellent performance throughout the 8.3 km (5.2 mi) bore, and achieved impressive advance rates along the way. Read more

Nicholson Awarded Design-Build Contract for Miami-Dade’s Norris Cut Project

Nicholson Construction was recently awarded a $72.1 million Design-Build contract to replace an existing force main from the Virginia Key Central District Wastewater Treatment Plant (CDWWTP) under Biscayne Bay Norris Cut to Fisher Island. The project, which involves changing out the current 54-inch sewer force main for a 60-inch replacement, is set to last approximately 26 months. The main scope includes the installation of a precast concrete segmental tunnel, which will stretch more than a mile from the treatment plant on Virginia Key to Fisher Island.

Terratec delivers the last two TBMs for Phase-III of Delhi Metro

On 22nd of November 2013, Terratec delivered the last two of eight (8) TBMs for Delhi Metro Phase III. The TBMs were officially unveiled at a ceremony that included representatives from the client, a joint venture between Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. of India and Samsung Engineering & Construction Group of Korea.

Tunnelling Journal is giving every reader free access to an exhaustive listing of international Tunnel Collapses. The document ‘Catalogue of Notable Tunnel Failure Case Histories’, courtesy of, and compiled by, the Mainland East Division, Geotechnical Engineering Office, Civil Engineering and Development Department of Hong Kong details 36 international collapses, and a further 6 specifically in Hong Kong. Each case, subject to the information available, includes a basic description of the event (many illustrated), the probable cause, the remedial measures undertaken, and the consequences and lessons learned. Terratec unveils third TBM for Delhi Metro Phase III

After a successful performance of the workshop testing, Terratec delivered the third of six (6) TBMs for Delhi Metro Phase III on Thursday, January 31st 2013.  The TBM was officially unveiled at a ceremony that included representatives from the client – a joint venture between J.Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. of India and China Railway Third Group (CRTG) of China.
