The British Tunnelling Society, in partnership with the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, the ITA, and the Pipejacking Association, is re-convening its previously popular Underground Construction Conference & Exhibition series after a lull of some six years. The two day event, to be held on 29-30th June 2011 at London’s Earl’s Court Conference Centre, is being resurrected in the light of the burgeoning workload for the UK tunnelling sector, with projects such as Crossrail and the Thames Super Sewer on the horizon. A call for papers has just been issued.
Themes and topics for Underground Construction 2011 include:
- Technical and design developments in underground construction
- Tunnel operation and maintenance
- Sustainable development and minimizing the impact of underground works
- A world wide tunnelling perspective
- UK project today and the future
- Ground investigation, treatment and monitoring
Participants wishing to present a paper should submit a brief abstract, in English, using the template available from www.tunnellingshow.com
The deadline for submission is February 18th 2011.
An exhibition will be held alongside the conference with 3,500 square meters of space to showcase relevant products and services.
Underground Construction was last held in London in 2005, but due to the downturn in tunnelling activity in the UK at the time, the attendance was poor. The Underground Construction committee, and series organiser Brintex Events, felt it best to put Underground Construction on hold until workloads improved. With some US$32bn worth of tunnelling on the cards for the UK over the coming years, the committee and Brintex Events felt the time was right to start the series again. TJ looks forward to supporting the event to the full.
