Cat TBMs achieve breakthroughs in Russian oil pipeline and metro projects

This month, Mostovik, a leading Russian underground contractor, celebrated two Caterpillar TBM breakthroughs. One for an oil transmission pipeline tunnel in Novorossiysk, by the Black Sea, and the second for a metro tunnel in the Siberian city of Omsk. Read more

Prime Minister kicks-off Bangkok Blue Line Extension

Friday, August 24th saw the start of tunnelling works on the 5.1km long Bangkok Blue Line Extension Project Contract 1 in the presence of the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, as well as officials from Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and contractor Italian-Thai Development PCL. LTA Thomson Line stations and alignment set

The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the rail alignment and 22 station locations for 30km long fully underground Thomson Line (TSL). The line will connect commuters living along the North South corridor directly to the heart of the city and developments in the Marina Bay area. Read more

Plumstead portal GE works complete

Crossrail’s contractor, Hochtief Murphy JV, has now completed the ground engineering for the Plumstead portal that will take Crossrail’s slurry TBMs below the River Thames.

Crossrail TBM milestones

Crossrail’s first TBM, Phyllis, has successfully reached Paddington, having travelled 750m from Royal Oak. A second TBM, Ada, has broken ground at Royal Oak Portal and commenced tunnelling towards Paddington. Read more

Helsinki plans Metro system

The Helsinki City Planning Department has began work on the local plan required for the proposed new rail line around the Helsinki city centre. The proposed new 7.2km long link is called Pisara (“droplet”) reflecting its shape and features 6km of twin-tube tunnels with cross passages every 200m. Read more

Mott MacDonald awarded mega underground pumping station contract

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC) to provide contract administration and site overview services for the development of one of the world’s largest underground pumping stations. Located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the pumping station will be over 100m deep and approximately 40m in diameter and will have an ultimate peak pumping capacity of approximately 3.3 million cubic metres per day. Hill International wins Doha Project Management contract

Hill International has received a contract from the Qatar Railways Company (Qrail) to provide project management services in connection with construction of the Green Line, one of four lines of the new Doha Metro transit system. The four-year contract has an estimated value of $59.2M. Read more
