Theiss/John Holland/Dragados wins A$1.15bn NWRL contract

Australia’s New South Wales Government has awarded a $1.15bn contract to build the North West Rail Link’s 15km twin tunnels to the Thiess/John Holland/Dragados joint venture. Work will start immediately to get the first of four TBM to used on the project in the ground by the end of next year. Read more

Canary Wharf breakthrough number two

Crossrail’s giant tunnelling machine Victoria has joined sister TBM Elizabeth in Canary Wharf box this week, after successfully breaking through on Tuesday 6 June. Crossrail’s eastern tunnelling machines were launched from the Limmo site near Canning Town towards the end of last year to create 8.3km of tunnels from east London to Farringdon – Crossrail’s longest tunnel section. Moscow Metro breakthrough

Contractor SK Most has achieved breakthrough of the first of three Robbins EPBs excavating the Moscow Metro. City officials and contractors were celebrating not only the early finish, but also the record-breaking achievements of the 6.2m diameter mixed ground machine. The TBM achieved a claimed record breaking 37.8m advance in one day at the end of April 2013. Read more
