AECOM has been awarded a design and construction supervision contract for Tunnel no 1 to be built on the Jiribam to Tupul new railway line in the eastern state of Manipur, India. The project will be undertaken for the Government of India’s North Frontier Railway.

As part of the overall masterplan for development of infrastructure in north-eastern India, a rail link has been planned to connect all state capitals. Construction of the new lines is currently underway to connect the capitals of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya with 125km of broad gauge rail. The new rail link will pass through deeply forested and mountainous terrain, and will require a large number of tunnels and bridges. The current project consists of a single 3km long tunnel.

The scope of the 24 month contract includes:

  • Initial and detail design of tunnel support, lining, ventilation, tunnel illumination, drainage, safety and surveillance systems.
  • Preparation of method statements for construction, disposal and Quality Assurance Plans
  • Environmental impact assessment and environmental mitigation program
  • Construction supervision and design support during construction

The Development as a whole for North East Region is very much far behind, comparing to other Indian states. Therefore Government of India should look seriousely in to the North East Region in the first place.
Yes as of Communication link and Transpotations by Highway Road, Highway Tunnelling,Railway Tunnel and Railway line is the best posible for the Hilly Region.

To Implement that,Highly experties and experiences Engineers and Financial Expert involvement are a key to success for this type of project. And such a expert from like,US-AUSTRIA GERMAN and EUROPEAN Countrties Contribution must be a important key.
