Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two more civil contracts, C931 and C936, with a total value of US$298M for the Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) project.

The US$153.3M Contract 931 for the construction of MacPherson station and its associated tunnels has been awarded to Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. MacPherson station will link DTL3 to the Circle Line. Workers coming from the north and north-west of Singapore who now rely on buses to travel will be able to conveniently access the industrial estates of Ubi and Kaki Bukit which are one to two stations away from MacPherson station.

Contract 936 is for the construction and completion of Bencoolen station and has been awarded to Sato Kogyo (S) Pte Ltd at US$144.8M. Located under Bencoolen Street near the junction with Bras Basah Road, the station will serve educational institutions such as the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and the School of the Arts; as well as the many hotels and offices in the area.

Construction of the two stations and tunnels are scheduled to commence in the second quarter of this year and targeted to complete in 2017.
The 21km long DTL3 is the final stretch of the 42km Downtown Line. It will enhance rail connectivity in the eastern corridors to the Central Business District (CBD) and developments in the Marina Bay area. Fully underground, DTL3 comprises 16 stations, including three interchange stations: MacPherson, Tampines and Expo. These interchange stations will link to the Circle Line (CCL) and the East West Line (EWL), providing greater accessibility and significantly improve travel time for commuters.
