The 2.35km northbound tunnel between Mai Po and Ngau Tam Mei in the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project (XRL) has been completed with the successful breakthrough of the TBM in November 2014.

The excavation works for the Mai Po to Ngau Tam Mei Tunnel commenced in September 2011. The southbound tunnel was completed in July 2013, and installation works are now underway for the rail tracks, overhead lines, signalling systems and telecommunications systems. The breakthrough of the northbound tunnel is being followed by construction works for tunnel invert slabs, cross passages and walkways.
