MEYCO Global Underground Construction, part of BASF’s Construction Chemicals business, has secured three lucrative contracts totaling some US$8.7M to supply a range of products to three tunnelling projects in Hong Kong.

The Gammon/Nishimatsu JV currently constructing the US$620M contract 704 on the MTR’s US$1.98bn, 3km long West Island Line has procured 12 MEYCO Units consisting of 4 Potenza, 1 Oruga, 2 Suprema and 6 Truck Mixers. The project involves the construction of twin 2.1km long drill and blast rail tunnels between Sai Ying Pun and Kennedy Town, and cavern construction at both Sai Ying Pun and Hong Kong University.

For the Drainage Services Department’s (DSD) US$1bn, 21km long HATS Stage 2A project, Gammon Construction has ordered 6 specialised Rail Bound Shotcrete spraying systems to use on its US$480M contract, which involves the drill and blast of 12km of 3.5m – 4.5m diameter tunnels between North Point and Stonecutters Island.

Finally, 3000 Tonnes Rheocem 650 and backfill grouting has been ordered by the Maeda/Seli/CREC JV currently building the US$155M, 5.1km long Tsuen Wan Draininage System for the DSD, using a 7.27m diameter Seli double shield hard rock TBM.
