The Normet Group has made two significant steps towards further business growth with the acquisition of the entire equipment and service business of Swedish Essverk Berg AB as of September 1, 2011, for mining and tunnelling, including relevant assets and employees, and the signing of an agreement with QME Limited, a mining equipment company based in Ireland, to develop their cooperation and service activities.

“The acquisition of Essverk gives Normet a physical presence in Sweden and allows us to better serve our customers in Sweden and Norway,” says Aaro Cantell, Chairman of Normet Group. “Essverk will be the base for our operations in Sweden and Norway and we have  a very strong commitment to develop and grow the combined business, under the new name of Normet Scandinavia AB.”

“From a technology point of view,” Tom Melbye, President of Normet Group, says, “Essverk is completing very well the Normet product range with its expertise in truck-based and lifting equipment and also provides extra manufacturing capacity. The company will also be the development and competence center for truck based equipment including existing Essverk offering, concrete spraying and new developments.”

“Joining Normet, on the other hand, provides Essverk Berg AB and its employees with an interesting future perspective in terms of growth potential and development,” says Tryggve Sjöberg, current owner of Essverk and designated head of sales and service for Normet Scandinavia AB.

“Having a strong local presence in Sweden and Norway will allow Normet to be in closer contact with its customer base in Sweden and Norway and provide improved service and spare parts supply levels”, says Pentti Köylijärvi, designated Managing Director of Normet Scandinavia AB. ”Normet Scandinavia will continue the sales and service of Essverk’s specialized offering and will also provide sales and Life Time Care services for Normet equipment and construction chemicals offering in the area.”

In the second deal, Irish firm QME will become an authorized service provider for Normet, as well as a partner in product and process offering development.

“This partnership is in line with Normet’s strategy for being a comprehensive solution and service provide to its mining and tunnelling customer’s,” says Tom Melbye,” QME has a long history in underground construction operations and comprehensive practical knowledge in various mining processes.”

“The new cooperation completes well Normet’s equipment, service and chemistry offering and chemical know-how.” Kari Hämäläinen, Normet’s Vice President, Service and Solution Offering, Life Time Care, says. “More importantly this partnership also enables Normet to provide wider scope of solutions for mining and tunnelling customers via its global network. Practical examples of the cooperation will be joint operative process specialist and ramp up teams for various underground development projects.

Peter McParland, CEO of QME Limited, commented “Partnership with Normet which is a global technology company in underground mining and construction gives QME and its employees an interesting future. Our present and future customers will greatly benefit from the combined knowledge and services that will now be available from the wide range of capabilities provided by both companies.  I believe that the mining and tunnelling cooperation agreement between Normet and QME Ltd, will allow customers to obtain maximum service, reliability & availability of Normet products.”
