Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport (DoT), to collaborate in the exchange of information and expertise in areas such as transport system programme management and development.

“The MOU provides a framework for Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport and LTA to exchange views, and work on joint land transport related projects. Through the collaboration, LTA hopes to learn from DoT and enhance our understanding of various land transport issues. The MOU will deepen the partnership between DoT and LTA, and help strengthen ties between Abu Dhabi and Singapore,” said Mr Chew Hock Yong, Chief Executive, LTA.

Under the terms of the two-year MOU, the two authorities will collaborate on joint programmes; and exchange expertise and policy perspectives. This will include collaboration in general management areas such as; sharing knowledge on land transport; development and execution of land transport related programmes; development of management systems; and human Resource Development.

In September 2007, the Government of Abu Dhabi released a comprehensive plan for the development of the city of Abu Dhabi that will guide planning decisions for the next 25 years. As part of this plan, Abu Dhabi aims to build the 131km of metro railway lines and 200km of light rail over the next decade.
