Robbins scores first Slurry TBM order

The Robbins Company has secured its first ever Slurry TBM order. In March 2011 Robbins will deliver a 6.26m diameter machine to contractor, Guangdong No. 2 Hydropower Engineering Co, which will be used to excavate the 2.7km long Zhanjiang Bay Cross-Sea Tunnel in southern China. Read more

Tam and Normet announce new acquisition – press release

The Tam International Group and Normet Group have announced today that they have acquired 100% of the share capital of “TAM Construction Chemicals (India) Pvt Ltd”. Previously TAM India was a 50/50 JV with Mr Sharat Nath. Mr Nath will continue as a Director of the company, responsible for sales acquisition. Read more

Rome Metro Line B1 breakthrough

SELI has broken through on the first of Rome Metro B1 Line’s 2.68km long twin-tubes at Piazza Bologna Station. Seli is acting as subcontractor to the JV Salini Costruttori – Tecnimont, and is constructing the twin tubes using two 6.78m diameter EPB DSU TBM. The second machine is due to breakthrough on the parallel tube in mid November. Read more

Breaking News – Transcity JV wins Northern Link

The Brisbane City Council today awarded the US$1.4bn Northern Link design, construct, maintain and operate tunnel contract to the Transcity consortium, comprising Acciona/BMD/Ghella. The JV beat off competition from one other bidder, Northern Direct, a JV of Bouygues/Laing O’Rourke/Transfield Services. Read more

CSCI win on Central-Wanchai Bypass

China State Construction International Holdings Limited (CSCI) has been awarded the US$680M Tunnel of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter Section Contract on Hong Kong’s Central-Wanchai Bypass. The project includes the construction of a 400m long tunnel at the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, and a 200m long tunnel located under the Hung Hom Tunnel. Read more

Brisbane Northern Link winner announced Monday

At 1pm (Queensland time) next Monday the winner of the bid to design, build, operate and maintain Brisbane’s US$1.6bn, 5.5km long twin tube Northern Link Tunnel will be announced. In the running for the 20-year concession are Northern Direct, a JV of Bouygues/Laing O’Rourke/Transfield Services, and Transcity, a JV comprising Acciona/BMD/Ghella.

Tula breaks through on linear accelerator

Tula, the 6.17m diameter Herrenknecht Mixshield, currently being used to bore 3km of the 5.7km maze of tunnels required for Germany’s XFEL linear accelerator tunnel near Hamburg, has broken through on the first of its three drives. The breakthrough comes as the Arge Tunnel XFEL JV constructing the project has taken delivery of its second Herrenknecht Mixshield, with a 5.45m diameter, that will bore the remaining 2.7km of tunnel on the research facility.
