LTA roll out more Thomson awards

The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two further civil contracts on the 30km long fully underground Thomson Line. Contract T202 for the construction of Woodlands North station and its associated tunnels has been awarded to Penta-Ocean Construction Co Ltd at a contract sum of S$337M, whilst Contract T217 for the construction of Napier station and its associated tunnels has been awarded to Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. (Singapore Branch) at a contract sum of S$189M. Read more

Aker Solutions sells German mining and construction assets

Aker Solutions has agreed to sell its German Aker Wirth tunnel-boring and shaft-boring technology to China Railway Tunneling Equipment Co. Ltd (CRTE), as part of a plan to divest assets that don’t fit with its main offshore-services strategy. CRTE will acquire technological intellectual property rights. It will also gain the right to use the Wirth brand name on tunnel-boring and shaft-boring products that are based on the acquired technology. Read more

HS2 publishes hybrid Bill

HS2 will take a major step forward today (25 November 2013) with publication of the Bill for phase one of the country’s new railway between London and Birmingham. The hybrid Bill, effectively the planning application for the scheme, will give the government the powers to construct and operate the railway. It will also give those affected by the proposed line the opportunity to petition Parliament, both for and against the proposals, and have their case heard by a committee of MPs. Read more

Two more for LTA’s Thomson Line

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two further civil contracts worth some S$757M on its 30km fully underground Thomson Line. The construction of Springleaf station and its associated tunnels (T208) has been awarded to Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited (Singapore Branch) – John Holland Pty Ltd Joint Venture (JV) at a contract sum of S$383M, whilst Contract T212 for the construction of Upper Thomson station and its associated tunnels has been awarded to Sato Kogyo (S) Pte. Ltd for S$374M. Read more

Aecon/Dragados JV wins Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown East Tunnel contract

On November 12, the Metrolinx Board of Directors approved the award of a CA$177 million construction contract for the Eglinton Crosstown East Tunnel to a joint venture of Aecon and Dragados, signalling another important milestone in the largest rapid transit expansion in the City of Toronto’s history. BC Hydro has announced that SNC-Lavalin has been selected as the preferred contractor to design and build the CA$1 billion dollar John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project, located within the City of Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada. Read more

Crossrail’s Stepney Green breakthrough

The UK’s Crossrail project has reached another important milestone with the breakthrough by Joint Venture Dragados/Sisk, which is constructing the eastern tunnels, of TBM Elizabeth into one of Europe’s largest mined caverns, 40m below Stepney Green in the East End of London. Read more
