Robbins TBM to assist Delaware Repair

Robbins has completed the manufacture and testing of a unique 6.8m diameter TBM that will be used to repair the longest continuous tunnel in the world. The TBM will be used to overhaul a section of New York City’s Delaware Aqueduct, a 137km  long tunnel that delivers about 50 percent of the City’s drinking water each day. Read more

Fehmarnbelt technical consultancy contracts awarded

Femern A/S, client for the 18km long immersed tube tunnel across the Fehmarnbelt, has today signed contracts with Ramboll-Arup-TEC JV for the supply of technical client consultancy services and with ÅF – Hansen & Henneberg for the supply of in-house technical consultancy services. The tunnel will connect Rødbyhavn in Denmark with Puttgarden in Germany and will be the world’s longest immersed tunnel and the world’s longest road and rail tunnel under water. Read more

On April 12 at 10 am EDT/ 2 pm GMT, Robbins Engineering Manager Brad Grothen and Robbins Chief EPB Engineer Shinichi Konda will be hosting a complimentary 60-minute webinar in which they will explore how Earth Pressure Balance Machines (EPBs) work, their various designs, and real-world applications. RFI issued for $3.3bn Virginia project

The Virginia Department of Transportation has released a Request for Information (RFI) for the expansion of the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT).  The RFI document solicits industry input regarding the project’s procurement and delivery method, including potential design-build and P3 options. Hong Kong’s Immersed Tube milestone

Hong Kong MTR’s Shatin to Central Link (SCL) has celebrated another milestone at the former Shek O Quarry with the completion of all the pre-cast units for the 1.7km long new cross-harbour railway tunnel. Read more

CBE Group celebrates 30th Anniversary

Bertha stops to re-align before final push

Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement contractor, Seattle Tunnel Partners has temporarily stopped mining to prepare Bertha, the 17.52m diameter Hitachi Zosen EPBM SR 99 tunnelling machine, for the final 308m (1,000 feet) of the 2.7km long (9,270-foot) tunnel drive. Read more
