Client, TELT has announced that Itinera/Ghella/Spie Batignolles has been awarded the €1bn contract for the 28.5km long twin tunnel works from Chiomonte to Susa on the Italian side of the Lyon-Turin Base Tunnel. Two Dual Mode TBMs will be used through hard rock and soils during the 91 month contract with the first TBM launching in 2025. Both machines will bore in the direction of the end of the Base Tunnel at Susa on the Italian side. Of the 64km twin tunnels on the project linking France and Italy by high speed rail, 34km have already been bored.
