Manipur tunnelling contract goes to HCC-Coastal

Indian construction giants HCC and Coastal Projects have won a $42.5 million tunnelling project in the country’s Manipur region. The project, which was awarded to the joint venture by Northeast Frontier Railway, involves the boring of a 4.9km tunnel between Kaimai Road station in Jiribam and Kambiron Road station in Tupur. Construction of the single-line broad-gauge tunnel is expected to take 28 months. Read more

MAT and FDOT reach deal over Port of Miami payment dispute

The Florida Department of Transportation and the multinational company building the $1 billion Port of Miami Tunnel have reached a settlement in their dispute over how much the state must pay the firm for unanticipated work on the project, reported the Miami Herald this week. Read more

Evergreen Line awarded

On January 29, Canada’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced the official award of the CA$889 million contract to design, build and finance Vancouver’s Evergreen Line to EGRT Construction, a consortium led by SNC-Lavalin. Read more

Crossrail rejects blacklisting claim

Crossrail Limited has rejected the unsubstantiated claims made by the Unite union that blacklisting has taken place on the Crossrail project. Read more

Nine JVs apply for Fehmarnbelt pre-qual

A total of 24 different companies from across the world forming nine different joint ventures have applied for prequalification for the 18km long immersed tube Fehmarnbelt fixed link project. The companies in the nine groups come from Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and South Korea. In addition, companies from the UK and USA are associated with some of the nine groups. Read more

Miami design-build FM project announced

Slated for procurement in early February, the Miami Dade Water and Sewer Department (MDWASD) is undertaking a design-build project to replace an existing 54-inch sanitary sewage Force Main (FM) that extends from Virginia Key and Fisher Island.  The FM replacement project will consist of a segmental tunnel, deep shafts, horizontal directional drilling, and the open cut installation of a 60-inch force main. The tunnelling team of J. Murphy & Sons Limited has completed breakthrough on the 1271m long, 2.59m i.d. Willesden to Taylors Lane Deep Cable Tunnel Project in north London for UK Power Networks. Read more

Crossrail launches Thames TBM

Sophia, Crossrail’s fifth TBM, has begun her journey from Plumstead to North Woolwich as part of the construction of a tunnel under the River Thames for London’s new rail link. Read more

NFM scoops French record TBM order

NFM Technologies has recently won two new tbm supply contracts, including one for the largest TBMs ever built to date in France. The giant machine with a diameter of 15.08m will be produced for the planned Caltanissetta road tunnel in Sicily on behalf of Italian company, CMC Cooperativa Muratori Cementisti Ravena, and its partner, Tecnis.
