NYSDOT reveals Syracuse I-81 Viaduct Project tunnel options

STEC orders two giant Mixshields for China multipurpose tunnel

On 23rd April, during the course of a visit to China by the German Minister of Economy and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel, a contract was signed in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, for the delivery of two Herrenknecht 15.76m diameter Mixshield TBMs to the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd (STEC), for a large multifunctional tunnel in Wuhan, central China. Bangalore breakthrough

Last month, TBM “Helen” broke through completing over 5000m of mined tunnel for Bangalore Metros East – West line underground section. “Helen” and sister TBM “Margarita” are 6.44m diameter Hitachi Zosen Slurry Shield Machines and have been deployed on the twin bores between City Railway Station in the west to Cubbon Park Station at the east end of the project. Final Tideway contract invitation released

All main works construction procurement packages for London’s Thames Tideway Tunnel have now been released with the invitation to tender sent out for the third and final section on the 22nd April. Client, Thames Water has sent out the ITT for the Central package of work to construct the 25km tunnel in London, with the successful bidders expected to be announced in May 2015. Read more

LTA statement on ‘depression’ incident

At about 8.30am on 24 April, a depression appeared at the centre lane of Upper Changi Road East (in direction towards Expo). A tipper truck that was passing tilted into the hole. The driver was not injured and there were no other injuries. To ensure the safety of motorists, two lanes were immediately closed to traffic while the truck was recovered.   Read more

LTA awards S$870M of Thomson Line contracts

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded three civil contracts for the Thomson Line with a total value of some S$870M. The contracts include the construction of Mt Pleasant, Stevens and Maxwell stations. Read more

STP releases Bertha’s re-start schedule

Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP), the Washington State Department of Transport’s (WSDOT) design-build contractor on Seattle’s SR-99 Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement tunnel project, has released a new schedule that shows the SR 99 tunnelling machine will resume digging by the end of March 2015. HCC wins again on Delhi Metro Phase III

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) Ltd has been awarded an Rs 300 crore (US$64M) contract by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) for the design and construction of 1.54km long twin tunnel on Dwarka-Najafgarh metro corridor of phase III of Delhi Metro. Read more

“Severely damaged” TBM to delay Hong Kong XRL

A TBM severely damaged by floodwater is affecting progress on the Hong Kong Section of the Express Rail Link (XRL) project. This unforeseen challenge has added to the difficulties of the project and will push the completion date to 2016 with the line ready for operation in 2017. Read more
