£1M fine for Crossrail contractor following incidents

Terratec to supply four more EPBMs to Istanbul

Australian-based TBM manufacturer, TERRATEC, has secured an order to supply four new 6.56m diameter EPBMs for Istanbul’s Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line from the Turkish tunnelling Joint Venture of Gulermak, Nurol & Makyol. This will see a total of seven TERRATEC EPBMs working simultaneously on the Istanbul Metro by the middle of 2018. Read more

Argentinian President resides over TBM ceremony

Argentinian President Mauricio Macri has inaugurated the start of preparatory works for the excavation of a 12km long, 4m diameter hydraulic tunnel in Buenos Aires. The project, being constructed by Salini Impregilo, is part of his government’s biggest public works project valued at $1.2bn to clean up the Matanza-Riachuelo Basin, one of the most polluted in the world. Tunnelling on Sydney’s New M4 on the WestConnex Project has reached a major milestone with the first underground breakthrough achieved between two tunnelling sites at Concord. The breakthrough was achieved by the project construction team of John Holland, CPB Contractors and Samsung C&T. Read more

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel project reaches major milestone

A project to expand the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel in southeastern Virginia, US, and widen Interstate 64 between Hampton and Norfolk reached a major milestone this week with the conclusion of a nearly two-year environmental study. Read more

Belchen breakthrough

TBM works for Switzerland’s Belchen rehabilitation tunnel completed in Eptingen in the canton of Basel-Country on June 21, 2017, three months ahead of schedule. The 13.9m diameter single shield Herrenknecht TBM, driven by contractor Mart Tunnelbau AG, excavated 3.2km of tunnel through complex geology in just 16 months. Read more
